Red Top Mountain State Park, Cartersville, Georgia
Celebrate the 4th of July at Red Top Mountain with fun activities for the whole family. Get settled in on Friday and then Party with the 'Possums at the Red Top Mountain Visitors Center. Join a ranger here for a guided hike to learn about nocturnal animals. Hike begins at "dark:30" so call to check start time. Wear comfortable shoes and bring a flashlight. Throughout the weekend there will be Roving Rangers offering impromptu nature programs in the park, and there will be Crafts for Kids at the Lodge. On Saturday there will be a guided Iron Mine Hike, too. The Park Visitors Center will have a complete schedule of these activities. Then on Saturday evening enjoy a wonderful Bluegrass performance in the Mountain Music Series. Bring a blanket or lawn chair and sit under the pines around the front porch of the Vaughan Log Cabin behind the lodge. At 8 p.m. Smokey's Farmland Band takes the stage. Directions: I-75 Exit 285, go east to State Park on Allatoona Lake. Visitors to Red Top Mountain State Park must display a $3 park pass admission per vehicle; available at the Visitors Center or Lodge.
