Travel books about Georgia
Along Interstate 75 Year 2001 : The Local Knowledge Driving Guide for Interstate Travelers Between Detroit and the Florida Border No single person knows the trip from Detroit to the Florida border along I-75 better than Dave Hunter. He drives it regularly and is a frequent visitor to our Welcome Center at Cartersville. We love the book, and Dave as well.
Brothers in Clay Brothers in Clay tells the story of Georgia's rich folk pottery tradition--the historical forces that shaped it and the families and individual artisans who continue to keep it alive. A pioneering book, Brothers in Clay marked the first intensive study of a southern state's pottery heritage and the first major examination of a native Georgia art form. Drawing on interviews with practicing potters, John A. Burrison ranges widely in his coverage, including discussions of the folk potters' contributions to Georgia life and their place in southern society; detailed explanations of turning, glazing, and firing processes; and histories of the state's eight major pottery-producing centers, from genealogies of the potting families to distinctive characteristics of their wares.
Burrison's preface to the new paperback edition reports on research conducted since Brothers in Clay first appeared, recent books and films
related to southern folk pottery, and auctions across the region. Focusing on Georgia, Burrison tells of important pieces of historic folk pottery that have recently surfaced and of the emergence of traditional potters not active when Brothers in Clay was first published.

Cherokee Women : Gender and Culture...Theda Purdue is the foremost authority on the Cherokee Indians. This is her most recent book and it centers on the impact of females in the Cherokee society. From the book "Cherokees had always regarded women different from men, but each enjoyed a distinct arena of power and each complimented the power ot the other. The new view of womanhood promoted by policy makers, agents, and missionaries also recognized difference, but the roles ascribed to women left them in a distinctly subservient, largely powerless position."
