The 1847 W&A Railroad Depot is certainly not to be missed on your next visit to Adairsville. Favored by Railfans and Geochachers, the site is treasured by historians as well. The Rail Depot was the centerpiece of commerce for Adairsville, originally a Cherokee town known as Oothcalooga Village. Adairsville became the first town in Georgia to be listed in its entirety on the National Register of Historic Places.
Inside the Train Depot visitors can browse through the Georgia destination brochures in the Adairsville Welcome Center and take a tour of the Adairsville Rail Depot Age of Steam Museum. The museum features displays of Adairsville's role in the Civil War railroad espionage attempt by Andrews' Raiders, known as The Great Locomotive Chase. Additional exhibits include railroad memorabilia and tributes to early life in Adairsville. Visitors will learn how Adairsville prospered from peaches and chenille.
Museum Hours: Monday-Thursday 10 a.m.-3 p.m.
